drift castnet

a castnet in which half is lowered into the water from a boat, the other half resting on the gunwhale. The boat drifts with the current which keeps the net open. When the fisherman feels a fish touch the net through the vibration of a rope attached to his foot, he releases his hold on the net so it falls to the river bottom, trapping the fish
